What P0219 means
The official name, "Engine overspeed condition", is about one number: how fast the engine itself was turning. The computer watched engine speed and recorded that the figure went past the highest speed programmed for this engine, and the code stores that comparison and nothing else. It is a reading of the engine's own rotation, not of road speed and not of any single part of the fuel or air path.
This is a standard code. It means the same thing on every make of vehicle.
What the program shows for P0219
Engine speed is the very reading this code is about: on the Dashboard it is drawn as a live trace over a dial spanning 0 to 7,000 rpm, and the Trip screen's Highest and lowest seen list keeps the highest figure that gauge showed all session. If the car stored a freeze frame, the When it happened tab shows the Engine speed it recorded at the moment the code was set.
The Dashboard has no per-injector or fuel pump readings; what it shows is Short and Long fuel trim, Air/fuel ratio, Manifold pressure beside Barometric, Engine load and Absolute load. The live Misfire count cards and the Full scan's per-cylinder misfire counters are the program's only cylinder-by-cylinder readings, and the Full scan's On-board self-tests include the Fuel system bank and Fuel system monitor results with the car's own limits. On diesels the Inspection screen shows whether the Boost pressure monitor has finished.
