What U0155 means
The car's modules exchange regular messages over a shared network, and the instrument cluster - the dials in front of the driver - is one of them. The name "Lost communication with the instrument cluster" says the messages expected from it stopped arriving, so what was measured is whether a message was there on the network, not any needle or figure the cluster displays. The U marks it as a network code: modules not talking to each other.
This is a standard code. It means the same thing on every make of vehicle.
What the program shows for U0155
Several of the figures a cluster puts in front of the driver have their own gauge on the Dashboard - Engine speed, Vehicle speed, Coolant temp, Fuel level - and the program reads every one of them from the engine computer through the diagnostic socket, not from the cluster this code names. The Trip screen's Distance, Average speed, Time moving and Time idling are the program's own arithmetic over those same readings rather than the cluster's numbers.
The Trouble Codes screen names the module the car lost contact with, from the engine and transmission modules to ABS, body, restraints and the instrument cluster, where the module is on its list. Look up a code does the same offline and says whether a code is standard or manufacturer-specific, and the Adapter traffic screen shows the raw requests and replies. Compare between two recordings shows whether the code is Gone, New or Still there.
