What P0500 means
"Vehicle speed sensor A" names an input rather than a comparison: the road-speed signal the engine computer reads, with the letter A marking the first such input on a car that may carry more than one. Unlike its neighbour P0501, "Vehicle speed sensor A range or performance", this name adds no qualifier at all — it identifies the reading the code is filed against and says nothing about which way that reading went. The figure at issue is the same road speed the computer publishes over the diagnostic port.
This is a standard code. It means the same thing on every make of vehicle.
What the program shows for P0500
