P0505 Idle air control system

What P0505 means
"Idle air control system" names the part of the air path the computer works with to hold engine speed while your foot is off the pedal, and the name stops there. It says which system the code is filed against and gives neither a reading nor a direction — nothing about which figure moved or which way. The two names either side of it, P0506 and P0507, are the ones that state a measurement and a direction.
This is a standard code. It means the same thing on every make of vehicle.
What the program shows for P0505
The program has no reading of the idle air control system itself; what it has is the definition of idle it applies to a recording — engine speed between 500 and 1,100 rpm with vehicle speed under 2 km/h — and only the stretches that fit are averaged. Separately, the Inspection screen lists the Sensors and actuators monitor, one of the three self-tests every vehicle runs, as complete or incomplete.
The Dashboard shows Vehicle speed, Engine speed with its warm-idle band, Relative throttle, Throttle actuator and System voltage, plus Oil temp (the program has no oil pressure reading). The Trip screen keeps Distance, Average speed, Time moving and Time idling, and the Analysis screen's At idle table gives the idle rpm for a recording.
